Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is a wonderful place both in the Summer and the Winter. The Winter is great because there are only a few brave folks there. Also, there are plenty of off season travel bargains available. Hotels are definitely cheaper that time of year.

We went over New Years a couple of years back. We really had it lucky because we arrived right after a huge storm. We drove from Buffalo up in the evening in the dark. After we found our hotel we went for a walk to see what was around and where we would get a bite for dinner. We bundled up to face the Arctic Chill.

There are all kinds of modern eateries from around the rest of the USA located within earshot of the falls. Yes, one can hear the falls often before they can see them. We were there while the falls were lighted with the colorful holiday lights.

There are two sides to the falls. First is New York and then there is Ontario. Both offer great views but to be honest, even though I am from the USA, I will admit that the Canadian side is much more beautiful.

We had dinner atop one of the hotels with a great view of the falls. Because of the favorable exchange rate we got to have a great buffet meal with all the trimmings for a small price. Driving over the bridge is pretty simple, pay a small toll and roll on... Do not forget to have some form of identification that indicates your citizenship. They are easy going at this border crossing, but without proof of citizenship the US agents are under no obligation to let you back into the USA.

Niagara Falls is a great place for couples and families. I am sure singles could find some fun, so long as it is not in a barrel headed over the fall. Enjoy!
