SPAIN
Spain is a wonderful country full of color and history. Like France and Great Britain, Spain helped to shape the world as we know it in the Western Hemisphere. It was Spanish sailors who braved the possibility of falling off the end of the world on their way the other way to the Far East. Instead they found America, including the Caribbean Islands. What a find! Spain is one of the few places I have listened to proper Spanish Language spoken. The people there are polite and friendly. Our stay was wonderful even though it was short. We went over US Thanksgiving and lasted over a week when you count the days in Portugal and Morocco also. We arrived in Spain from Portugal. We flew into Madrid and caught a private bus to our centrally located hotel. (The rooms were very small by US standards but were average in size by European standards.) We stayed at a Best Western Hotel which provided a breakfast with our room. The food is very different from what you see in the USA. Those who confuse Mexican food with Spanish food will be severely disappointed to find that the Spanish food is much better for you. You will find a heavy usage of seafood and pork in the cooking in Spain. Pallea is my favorite Spanish dish. In Tampa, Florida some places come close to making it like we had it in Spain, but it was even better in Spain. Spain has two very different coasts, that of the Atlantic Ocean on the North and the Mediterranean Sea to the South. The climates are very different on each coast. I have not had the time to check out either as of yet but hope to get back soon to do so. I certainly look forward to taking my children to see Spain sometime when they are older. I am sure that we will have a great time since the Spanish people were friendly and inviting to be around. Go see for yourself.
