Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving is a Great Sport. There is a whole world out there for you to explore. In this world there is so much to see. To get a glimpse of what you can see, it makes sense to visit an aquarium. Keep in mind that in an aquarium, you only see a small fraction of what you will see in the Oceans. For some samples of what you can see in Hawaii, click here. For information about diving in the Florida Keys click here.

I have been a certified diver for nearly 16 years. In that time, I have been in lakes, sand pits, along the USA coast, and in the South Pacific. Some of the best diving in the world is in Fiji. I had a great time there, especially since it was my honeymoon trip. Darlene did not dive with me on that trip though.

Australia's Great Barrier Reef is another fine dive site. Actually there are several thousand dive sites there to explore. The Barrier Reef is actually several small reefs all together in a single reef system.

PADI is one of the top training organizations in the world. They are one of just a few organizations that has helped to set standards for diving that make the sport safe. Another organization that helps make diving safe in Divers Alert Network (DAN). DAN helps provide special training useful in the unlikely event of a dive accident. DAN also helps medical professionals better understand how to treat patients after a dive accident.

Through my diving, I have come across several dive shops. Some of the ones I find to be good for advanced training or finding bargains on new equipment include: Cairns Dive Center (Great Barrier Reef), Coral Isle Charters; Diver's Discount Supply; and Matagi Island. There are many more good shops out there. These are ones I can personally say provide great service. I also have a page of diving travel links dedicated to the traveling scuba diver. If you know of others, tell me by clicking on the e-mail link below. One of the really good magazines about this sport is Skin Diver.
