About our visits to South America

We've visited South America by air and by sea. By air we've been to Ecuador and had a chance to walk around the monument at the Equator which is a neat place to visit. Visiting local markets, seeing other historical sights was all fun. Note Quito is high up in the mountains, especially for those of us who are used to living on the coast and thus close to sea level.

Columbia is a beautiful country along the coast. Nope, its not full of drugs and thugs, instead the port cities are full of tons of colonial architecture. All of the people we have run into were friendly. Of course we ran into those trying to sell their wares.

Off the coast are the ABC islands, Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao all beautiful places to visit. Best to go by ship if you want to see all three. If you only want one, it is important to know ahead of time what it is you want to do on the island as each has a very unique personality.

Aruba is full of life with great beaches. Bonaire is a great place for shore diving and snorkeling. It is also great for a break and opportunity to get away from it all. Curacao is a great place for a neat town with beautiful architecture. It also has some great beaches for sitting out and soaking in the sun while also playing in relatively calm water.
